Final ball for JOHNNIE WALKER® Local to Lord’s search
For the last three month’s Johnnie Walker has been looking for two ambassadors to embark on the ultimate adventure – to travel from their local pub in Australia, through nine countries over land and sea, taking cricket through Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, China, Mongolia and Russia*.
The trip ends in London with a chance to watch Australia take on England in the npower 2009 Ashes Test at Lord’s.
Travel-hungry cricket fans now have one final chance to demonstrate how they would set up an impromptu cricket game with anyone, anywhere by submitting video clips or images to www.localtolords.com – closing date for entries is Friday 13th February.
The judging committee including Inside Cricket and Getaway presenter Brendon Julian will be looking for cricketing ability; desire for adventure and enthusiasm, initiative and creativity; charisma, charm, social skills; and the ability to teach cricket to non-cricketers.
A unique career opportunity for any budding writer, photographer, reporter or aspiring presenter, candidates will be challenged to document their adventures as they travel, including cricketing tests set by the man who’s so good they call him ‘Mr. Cricket’, Mike Hussey.
Hussey said: “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for two adventurers to go on a unique cricket tour. They’ll take cricket to far-away, non-cricketing countries and will be constantly faced with many challenges, both mental and physical, before seeing me and the boys in action at Lord’s.”
The Johnnie Walker Local to Lord’s search will culminate in a grand final on 26th February 2009, where short-listed applicants will bat(tle) down to the last wicket in front of a high profile selection committee.

wow that is a great prize. I would love to be able to go on this tour with a chance to watch the ashes. It is a good thing what Johnny Walker is doing for the fans.
Haddin has landed himself in a bit of trouble. I've always thought of his as a poor keeper but that was just wrong. He clearly put his gloves infront of the wicket. why the hell would you do that? and why did Ponting win the Allan Border medal? Can someone answer this for me?
Take away the captaincy, he hasn't done to badly Punter, just the inconsistency (eg. getting single figures or fifties/centuries) has been a blotch on his year. But the team results will always place a Captain in the red zone, so that's why even he was surprised at winning the award.
I am not. Stranger things have happened to AU cricket the last year.
As for Haddin, I have done wicket-keeping and sometimes in the moment and just waiting for that ball a keeper can get a bit carried away, like Brad, and edge past the stumps. It was marginal, and while the ball did clip the top of the off-stump I have NO doubt, his glove did remove the bail making it actually NOT OUT.
He has reffered two or three catches he wasn't sure of to the 3rd umpire so was surprised the other day he didn't do so then. Was so marginal as I said so he wasn't entirely aware and they were begging for that wicket. When you not playing as a slow mo replay you are not aware of that centimetre or so in front of the bails.
Either way the Kiwi's do moan a fair bit. They won it anyway so they can put it to rest, had they would have heard all about it. Unfair things have gone Aussies way to so I don't care to be honest.
Squad announcement in a few hours probably so hold thumbs on it. Post an article later on it..holding thumbs it's a decent one.
Damn KP just departed on 97. He was looking so good. oh well, as Gilly once said, "England in all sorts of trouble this summer."
I was actually quite surprised by Ponting winning the medal. Yes, he hasn't done too badly with the bat but not enough to get him a medal.
I am not too bothered with what NZ had to say either. I just don't think Haddin's a good enough keeper to be in the side but I think this is the best Australia's got at the moment.
